DESTRUCTION OF SEIZED 838.490 kgs of GANJA TO COMBAT DRUG ABUSE AND TRAFFICKING & SIEZED 238 Kgs OF ILLICIT TOBACCO PRODUCT AND ARRESTED 40SELLERS.

On Thursday, (07.08.2025), In a decisive move against drug abuse and trafficking, the Tambaram City Police successfully destroyed 838.490 kgs of seized Ganja with an approval of Narcotic Disposal Committee. The contraband, accumulated from various enforcement operations across Tambaram City, was incinerated at GJ Multiclave Company, located in Thenmelpakkam, Sengundram, Chengalpet District.

2) Given the hazardous and decaying nature of narcotic substances and the limitations of secure storage, the Tambaram City Police regularly undertakes the destruction of seized drugs as per the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

3) The Tambaram City Police has been consistently undertaking persistent efforts towards the destruction of narcotic substances as part of its commitment to combat drug abuse and trafficking. In the year 2025 alone, a total of 1,531 kgs of Ganja has been destroyed so far. On 07.08.2025, an additional 838.490 kgs were incinerated at an authorized facility as part of this ongoing initiative.

4) Further, a joint raid conducted along with the officials from Food Safety Department, to curb the menace of prohibited tobacco substances, nearby educational institutions across the Tambaram city jurisdiction. With the primary objective of eliminating the illegal sale and distribution of tobacco products,multiple police teams were constituted and deployed to conduct simultaneous raids.

i) As a result of this operation. A total of 238 kgs of illicit tobacco products were seized, 40 cases were registered under Section 24(1) of COTPA, 2003, at various police stations under the Tambaram City limits. 40 individuals involved in the illegal sale of tobacco were arrested and 40 shops were sealed by the competent authority.

ii) Among those arrested, the following fiveindividuals were identified as key offenders: 1) Kannan,A/41, S/o Govintharaj, No. 78, Thenupureeswarar Housing Colony, Madambakkam, Chennai – 600126, 2)Balaji A/ 41, S/o Pandian, No. 14, Janakiraman Street,Selaiyur, Chennai – 600073. 3) Mohamed Kutty, A/54,S/o Abu Bakkar, No.52, Balaji Nagar, Amaramedu, Somangalam. 4) Astak M/45 S/o Musshtak Shahpur, Bhore Jairam, Jamshedapur, Bihar, and 5) Ajith Pandit M/40 S/o Sita Pandit No- Kuseta post, Mandacha, Kusaila Nalanda, Bihar. All the accused have been produced before the jurisdictional Judicial Magistrateand to obtain judicial custody.
