In a significant judgment delivered on 20.08.2025, the Hon’ble Additional District and Sessions Court, Chengalpattu, convicted and sentenced Jeevanandhan(40), son of Manuvel, resident of Tirusoolam, Chennai, to undergo Life Imprisonment for committing the murder of Jayanthi (37/2012), W/o Manuvel, resident of Tirusoolam, Chennai. The incident occurred on 06.06.2012 at about 00.30 hrs at Kannabiran Koil Street, Pallavaram, where the deceased Jayanthi was murdered inside her residence, due to property dispute. On the complaint of her husband Manuvel, a case was registered at T-3 Pallavaram, PS, in Cr.No.2539/2012 U/s 449, 302 & 34 IPC and taken up for investigation. The accused Jeevanandhan, M/A/40, S/o. Manuvel, No.2/251, Kannabiran Koil Street, Tirusoolam, is a history sheeted ‘B’ category rowdy in T3, Pallavaram, Police Station. He involves in 6 cases (including 3 robbery and 2 dacoity cases). During the course of investigation, accused Jeevanandhan, was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. After the completion of investigation, the final report was filed before the court against Jeevanandhan, and the court awarded the following punishments.
• Section 302 IPC – Life Imprisonment and a fine of Rs.2,000/- (in default, 3 months imprisonment).
• Section 449 IPC – 5 years Rigorous Imprisonment and a fine of Rs.1,000/- (in default, 3 monthsimprisonment).
